Chapter 23

Mr. Wonka was talking about square candies that look round in this chapter! He was using the words 'looking round' in a different way than we expected. We call that a 'play on words'. Can you think of another example of a play on words?

Chapter 22

Today Mr. Wonka was in a big hurry to go through the factory! He took the remaining children through the corridor but did not stop at any doors - but they did get to read them! Which door seemed most interesting to you? What do you think was inside?

Chapter 21

What kind of child is Violet? Explain what happened to her in this chapter. Do you think she got what she deserved? Why?

Chapter 20

Mr. Wonka loves colors! He has invented a new kind of chewing gum - but why do you think it turned out grey? What do you think happened to all of the colors? What do you think this new gum will do?

Chapters 1-5

We have just begun the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and are enjoying it very much! For the first few chapters we have been discussing and using the comprehension strategy of Questioning from the book, 7 Keys to Comprehension, by Cris Tovani.
